What Should I Do When My Washing Machine Will Not Drain
Is it taking an abnormally lengthy time for your washing machine to drain? A required reset, a malfunctioning lid switch, a clogged drain hose, or another issue might be the cause.
Something is amiss if your garments are entirely immersed in water after the washing has stopped running. Why isn’t the water draining from the drum? To figure out what went wrong with the washing machine, use these troubleshooting steps.
Master Reset Washing Machine
When your washing machine won’t turn on, perform what the specialists call a MASTER RESET. Unplug your washer from the power outlet and wait 60 to 120 seconds before plugging it back in. Within 12 seconds, open and close the door six times. This instructs the computer/memory within to wipe and reset itself. The washer may drain normally once it has been reset.
Drain Hose Bent
One of the most common causes of a washing machine not draining is a blocked hose. When troubleshooting the drain line, the first thing you should do is examine it (typically below the washer) for any kinks, bends, or other blockages, and make sure it’s clear of any debris so water can flow freely. To make sure there are no obstacles, remove the drain hose and run water through it.
Lid Switch Testing
Use a tool or a pencil to push down on the lid switch assembly to see whether it is faulty. When the lid switch is depressed, the washer should begin to spin. If a wire is loose or the lid switch is broken, the washer will not allow water to drain. Unless the lid switch is in good working condition, the washing machine will not start or drain the water. Another comparable issue is that the piece of metal on the actual washer top lid that presses down on the lid switch may need to be lengthened or replaced, but only if the lid switch is functional. It’s possible that it’s not making contact with the lid switch, in which case the washer won’t run or drain.
Drain Hose/Drain Pump Clogged
If the washer is still not emptying, there are a few things to look at. Examine the drain hose or pump for obstructions. Remove the components and inspect for any form of obstruction to see if this helps clear it and allow your washer drain if the pump or hose is clogged with lint, socks, or other bits of fabric. If the washer drum is still filled with water, be mindful that water will leak out when disassembling the drain pump or other components. Before disconnecting anything, try to get as much water out of the drum as possible.
Water Level Control Valve Inspection
The water level control valve in your washer may be defective or blocked if it won’t drain or spin. Look for a plastic tube linked to the valve when you open the machine. The amount of water in the washer tub is controlled by this water level valve. If this element of your washing machine is blocked with calcium deposits caused by hard water, remove it from the machine and soak it in vinegar overnight to clean it out. Using hot soapy water, scrub away any lingering hard water buildup. If the water level control valve has rusted owing to hard water salt build-up, it should be replaced.
Coin Trap Cleaning
Cleaning out the coin trap in your washer is a simple remedy. Simply open the top panel and remove any stray coins or other things you find to prevent draining problems during the next wash cycle.
