According to officials, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins was killed after he was struck by a dump truck on a Florida highway.
Dwayne Haskins, the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback and 2018 Heisman Trophy finalist at Ohio State, was killed by a dump truck while attempting to cross a roadway on foot in South Florida on Saturday morning, according to authorities.
Haskins was 24 years old when he re-signed with the Steelers last month.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Haskins was attempting to cross Interstate 595’s westbound lanes near the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Broward County when he was struck by a dump truck. According to the patrol, the event occurred just after 6:30 a.m.
According to the patrol, he was “walking on (the highway) for unclear reasons” when the event occurred.
There were no immediate details on what led up to it. Haskins has been working out with several Steelers teammates in South Florida recently, as seen by Instagram posts from Haskins and Steelers running back Najee Harris.
Haskins’ death elicited shocked reactions from around the league and beyond.
“With the untimely passing of Dwayne Haskins, I am devastated and at a lost for words,” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said in a statement provided by the organisation.
“Upon his arrival in Pittsburgh, he soon became a member of our Steelers family and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community,” Tomlin said in a statement.”Dwayne was a fantastic teammate, but he was also a fantastic friend to a lot of people. “I’m devastated to say the least. During this sad moment, our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Kalabrya, and his whole family.”

‘I feel like I can be a starter in this league’
Haskins, who was a backup to now-retired longtime Steeler Ben Roethlisberger last season, re-signed with the Steelers for one year last month, putting him in line for his fourth season in the league.

He was signed by the Steelers in January 2021, although he never played in a regular-season game for the team.
Although he only knew Haskins for a short period, former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger remarked on Twitter that he knew him to be “a young man that didn’t seem to have a bad day.”
